Trayvon Martin Foundation hosts back-to-school event
OPA-LOCKA, Fla. (WSVN) -- A foundation established in Trayvon Martin's honor hosted a back-to-school extravaganza.
Martin's parents were among the volunteers handing out bookbags and supplies to 200 kids at Hanan's Academic Development Center in Opa-locka.
Sybrina Fulton, Martin's mother, talked about the joy of helping children. "Today is a very important day for us. We get time to spend with the kids. We give time to to give back to the community."
Father Tracy Martin addressed the investigation into their son's death but had little information. "Right now, there's a federal investigation," he said. "They haven't told us anything. God works in mysterious ways. We're just letting God do his work."
The children were also treated to free food, games and a bounce house before the new school year begins.
