Sketch released of suspected rapist
WILTON MANORS, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are going door to door in Wilton Manors Monday afternoon searching for clues in a brutal sexual assault.
Wilton Manors Police have released a sketch of a man suspected of ambushing a 56-year-old woman at her home, last Wednesday. "The subject last week forced his way into a home, forcing the victim back into the home with him," Wilton Manors Police Sgt. Shawn Chadwick said. "Once inside, he brutally beat her and sexually assaulted her."
Officers with the Wilton Manors Police Department spent Monday morning and afternoon going door-to-door with the sketch, trying to find out information in the brutal beating of the woman last week.
They focused in the area of Northwest Ninth Trail, from the 2300 block to the 2900 block, where, last Wednesday, at about about 3 p.m., the woman was the victim of a rape during a home invasion robbery.
The incident has also caused an alarm for neighbors. "It's terrible," Frank Stavola said. "Such a nice lady, too. You can't even sit in front of your house in broad daylight? It's a shame."
Investigators are looking for a black man in his mid 20s, standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall with short hair and a thin build. On the day of the attack, he was seen wearing a black tank top, red and white shorts and white sneakers.
"Individuals have video cameras in their homes, inside and outside," Chadwick said. "Some people don't work during the day. Somebody may have just seen this person walking up and down the street or maybe had some videotape of the individual, so we want to do everything within our power to ensure that we try to find out who this person is."
If you have any information on this attack or recognize the person in the sketch, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
