Convict in Brewer burning case cops plea for burglary
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Matthew Bent, one of three teens convicted in the Michael Brewer burning case is pleading no contest to a burglary charge.
He was sentenced to time served for the crime, which prosecutors noted, happened before the attack on Brewer. Bent is currently serving 11 years for his role in that crime.
Dennis Bent, Matthew Bent's father, said, "He's not copping out to any felonies. He just wants to do these 11 years he has to do over with. Hopefully his appeal comes back next year, and hopefully, we can wash this up and everybody move on."
Brewer suffered burns to more than two-thirds of his body after being doused with rubbing alcohol and set on fire. He has since recovered from his injuries.
