Man wanted in Puerto Rico arrested in South Fla.
NORTH BAY VILLAGE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A man wanted in connection to an alleged murder in Puerto Rico was arrested in South Florida following an overnight manhunt.
Police said Jesus Rodriguez, 27, was apprehended behind a home in North Bay Island, a gated neighborhood on the bay.
According to North Bay Village Police, a police officer conducted a traffic stop, and during the stop, Rodriguez was asked to exit the vehicle and as he did, he fled from the officer.
Officers quickly set up a perimeter and called out police helicopters and K-9 units to assist in the search for Rodriguez.
Authorities found him early Thursday morning hiding in a cabana bathroom located in the back of a home on the 7800 Block of Miami View Drive.
Rodriguez was asked to surrender but refused. A police K-9 apprehended him. "One bite, and the guy was down," said the homeowner.
After being treated for a bite wound, he was transported to jail.
One woman who lives next door heard the commotion. "I was just afraid, very afraid. I don't know what was happening. I did hear some people screaming and stuff," said Jinette Rojos.
North Bay Village Mayor Connie Leon-Kreps commented on the situation. "Our police department apprehended somebody that came in here to hide this morning or late last night. It was somebody who was wanted or being looked for by the federal authorities for a crime, homicide," said Leon-Kreps.
Rodriguez has been charged with burglary and resisting arrest.
