Alleged smart phone bandits face armed robbery charges
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Three suspects police believe are involved in a smart phone robbery ring appeared in court Thursday.
Twenty-year-old Yoan Acosta-Orta was charged with one count of armed robbery with a firearm. Eighteen-year-old Miguel Alexander Rijo and 20-year-old John Sanchez-Johnson were charged with two counts of armed robbery with a firearm. They were both denied bond.
Miami Beach Police, with the assistance of City of Miami and Coral Gables detectives, took the suspects and three other men into custody over the weekend.
Investigators said the subjects are suspected of being part of an eight-person team responsible for stealing smart phones from people or cars across Coral Gables and the Miami Beach area.
