Police: car involved in woman's shooting found in lake
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) -- Hollywood Police have confirmed that a car involved in a shooting that put a woman in the hospital has been found in a lake.
Police are still searching for a shooter who gunned down the woman as she walked on a sidewalk near the 5200 block of Sheridan Street, around 7:50 a.m., Friday. Later that afternoon, they found the car, a newer model 2-door Audi, in a body of water in Lauderdale Lakes.
Witnesses reported seeing the Audi crash through a fence and then into a large lake. Witnesses also reported seeing the alleged driver of the car running from the scene.
Police believe that man may be behind the shooting of the woman, who is in her late 20s or early 30s. Witnesses at that scene reported seeing him fleeing eastbound on Sheridan.
Witnesses called 911 and rescue and police arrived. The woman was transported from the shooting scene in serious condition. However, by Friday afternoon, her condition was downgraded to critical.
Police have not said how many times she was hit and have not been able to talk to her. They do not know whether she knew the gunman or not. Investigators are interviewing family members of the victim, however.
Hollywood Police also interviewed witnesses who saw the shooting. "Witnesses said that they also saw a silver, 2-door Audi vehicle, newer model, fleeing the scene, and that's all we have on that," said Hollywood Police Sergeant Pablo Vanegas. "The victim was transported to Memorial [Regional] Hospital."
