Family of murdered mother holds fundraiser
SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A fundraiser was held over the weekend in an effort to help a family after the horrific murder of a mother whose body was posted on Facebook.
Jennifer Alfonso's family and friends gathered Sunday at A.D. Barnes Park in Miami. The event celebrated Alfonso's life with some music, food and fun activities.
The fundraiser has been set up for Alfonso's 10-year-old daughter, Isabelle. "We're trying to raise some money for Isabelle, Jennifer's daughter, to help with therapy bills and other things she might need because Jen provided everything for her," said the victim's mother Carolyn Knox.
Police said Alfonso was killed by her husband Derek Medina at their South Miami home earlier this month. A picture of her body was then posted on his Facebook page.
According to investigators, the 31-year-old confessed to shooting Alfonso six to eight times and called the shooting self-defense.
He has been charged with first-degree murder.
His arraignment is set for Thursday.
