Midtown residents appeal Walmart construction
MIAMI (WSVN) -- A coalition of residents, business people and artists in Midtown are filing an appeal of Walmart's class two special permit.
Residents are concerned the feel of luxury, structure and traffic of the Midtown shopping center will be affected by the construction. "The way Walmart wants to build their store will not match the north side of Midtown Miami and that kind of mistake will be embedded in stone for decades to come. People will walk by and say, 'Who built this Walmart? It looks out of place with the rest of Midtown,'" said spokesperson for NoWalmartInMidtown.com Grant Stern.
Stern added, "They are trying to ignore all the design standards to built an oversized parking garage. They want to put almost 600 parking spaces, they need five loading days. They will basically flood the area with traffic."
However, proponents say the Walmart would create hundreds of construction and retail jobs.
