Store clerk thanks Good Samaritan for stopping would-be thief
NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) -- A customer inside a South Florida business became the store clerks hero after putting the brakes to a robbers plan.
The suspect tried to rip-off the Smoke Shop located on 124th Street and Biscayne Boulevard Sunday, Aug. 18 just before 10 p.m.
North Miami Police released the surveillance video of the suspect who pushed store clerk, Kayla Seaks back towards the wall. A Good Samaritan, who chose not to be identified, came to her rescue. "He was grabbing on to both of us," Seaks said. "We were like ragdolls."
Seaks said thinking of what was going to happen wasn't necessarily on her mind. "Yea and no," Seaks said. "Only because I go off on my instincts. This area is a good area. It's really shocking, it really was."
The crook demanded cash but Seaks chose not to give the man what he was looking for. "I didn't say no, I just ignored it," said Seaks. "I didn't say no, because I know that can make someone else even more frustrated."
The customer is seen on surveillance cameras going as far as punching the suspect in the face.
Seaks is thankful for what the customer did and knows without him, the incident may have turned out differently. "He's my hero," Seaks said laughingly. "I don't know what would have happened if he wasn't here. I really don't."
Police believe the same suspect is responsible for numerous robberies in the area.
