Teen faces vehicular homicide charge after crash
MIAMI (AP) -- An unlicensed teen driver accused of crashing a stolen car into the entrance to a Miami Dade College faces vehicular homicide charges.
The Tuesday morning crash left one dead, three critically injured and forced authorities to cancel daytime classes at the Liberty City campus. The speeding vehicle barely missed people at a nearby bus stop.
According to an arrest affidavit, the 16-year-old blamed the crash on brake and steering malfunctions.
The Miami Herald reports the teen climbed through the sun roof and ran from the scene. He flagged down a passing vehicle and asked for a ride. His family called an ambulance after he arrived home.
Authorities say he told his step-mother later took him to the police station, where he initially denied involvement in the crash.
