Police search for beauty store bandits
LAUDERHILL, Fla. (WSVN) -- Owners of a South Florida beauty store are hoping to find four women responsible for stealing nearly a thousand dollars worth of hair extensions.
Tom Aljaarari, who has owned Lauderhill beauty store where the theft took place for more than 15 years, said he has been robbed before, but nothing quite like this. "They managed to get away with this hair," Aljaarari said as he held a hair extension in his hand.
The hair extensions were the most expensive items sold in Aljaarari's store. "This is a lot more expensive," Aljaarari said. "It's the one we keep inside the case. You're talking about, like $180."
Aljaarari said the four women responsible for stealing the extensions knew the prices and had no intention of paying for them. "One of them said 'You're going to give us some discount? A kind of deal because we're buying a lot?'" Aljaarari said. "[The clerk at the register] said, 'Yes, we'll do our best.'"
Surveillance video from the store first shows a woman wearing a pink skirt constantly looking back towards the door. According to Aljaarari, she was checking for a car.
After a few minutes, two women turned and walked out without paying. Within two minutes, two other women bolted towards the door with a bag full of hair extensions.
When the women were off camera, they walked out the front door and into a waiting car in the parking lot. Aljaarari said they jumped into the waiting car and took off within seconds.
Aljaarari said the women took nearly $1,000 worth of merchandise.
Aljaarari said he has learned his lesson when it comes to allowing customers to look at several products more than once. Even so, he added, he still wants the suspects caught.
