Video captures gunmen opening fire on home
NEAR FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- The Broward Sheriff's Office has released surveillance video that captures a trio of hooded gunmen opening fire on a South Florida home where several children were sleeping.
On Tuesday, a hail of bullets struck a home located on the 2900 block of Northwest Sixth Court. Inside the home were two women and three children, ages 2, 10 and 12. No one was injured.
Just before 12:30 a.m. the group of armed men can be seen on video arriving at the home. "You see the gunmen arrive in a white SUV," said Broward Sheriff's Office spokesperson Gina Carter. "You see them carrying their guns, running towards the house."
The footage then shows the gunmen opening fire. Authorities said the trio riddled the home with four dozen bullets.
The homeowners, who asked not to be identified, described the barrage of gunfire. "It was just a whole lot of gunshots," said a woman who lives at the residence. "I have no idea, but I really want to know [who did this]. It was crazy, it was a whole lot going through my head making sure my kids were fine."
The gunmen are later seen running to the white sport utility vehicle and then fleeing the scene. "We see them moments later running away from the house, still firing wildly into the neighborhood," said Carter.
One of the subjects is shown holding and firing a large assault rifle. The bullets left the property with holes throughout the property, including on the front window and the homeowner's car.
The homeowner said he believes the shooters targeted the wrong home. He added that he feels fortunate no one was hurt. "I'm blessed," he said.
BSO said this family was extremely lucky. "This was just after midnight, so this family got very lucky and these shooters are obviously very reckless, just shooting wildly into the neighborhood," said Carter.
A woman who resides in the home said she wants the men responsible for this shooting to be brought to justice.
Witnesses said the saw the suspects' SUV casing the neighborhood on Thursday. "There are at least four people involved in this crime," said Carter. "There's a driver that we don't see, but we see him driving, dropping off, picking up the shooters, and there's three shooters all wearing sweat clothes."
One of the women who lives at the residence said she wants the men responsible for the shooting to be brought to justice. "I just wish that they'd catch them and make an example out of them," she said.
