Man accused of burglarizing home, sexually assaulting male resident
WEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida man is behind bars Saturday after he was arrested for allegedly breaking into a home and raping a man inside the residence.
Wrapped in a blanket, 24-year old Marcos Mendoza was handcuffed and taken into custody just before 3 a.m. in front of the victim's Little Havana home near Southwest Seventh Street.
Neighbors like David Ferrer heard the commotion and went outside to find out what was happening. He said what he saw took him by surprise. "[He was] completely naked," he said.
Police rushed over to the victim's home after a neighbor dialed 911. "They threw him in the car, he tried to fight back, and they resisted him, and they did their job," said Ferrer.
Investigators said Mendoza did not know the victim. He was charged with sexual battery and burglary.
"This is what happens every day in Little Havana," said Ferrer. "This is nothing new."
As Ferrer watched the scene unfold, he said all he could think about was his family. "I don't like rape," he said. "I got daughters. That, I do not condone. They should be locked away and throw away the key."
Mendoza is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
