Car, police cruiser collide, no injuries
NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida driver claimed a police officer driving with his headlights off crashed into his car Sunday night.
Debris was left scattered throughout the westbound lanes between Northeast 19th and 20th Avenues along Northeast 163rd Street as detectives who arrived at the scene attempted to piece together the collision.
Driver Stanley Tanis said he was about to make a left turn when he suddenly saw a vehicle speeding towards him with its headlights off. "I was making a left, and I see [the cruiser] with no lights on," he said. "The car was speeding, maybe doing 70, 80 miles per hour, and soon I got in the middle [of the road], and I looked and I'd seen it was a police car."
Tanis said he immediately slammed on the brakes of his black Buick. "I hit the front [of the police cruiser] instead of the middle. I probably would have been dead right now."
No injuries were reported. Police are investigating.
