KEY WEST, Florida (AP) -- U.S. endurance swimmer Diana Nyad is closing in on the shores of Key West in her attempt to become the first person to swim to Florida from Cuba without a shark cage.
Nyad is expected to reach the shore about 2 p.m. Monday. She was being escorted by boats and her team of 35 people.
There are at least a couple of hundred people waiting for her on the beach, cheering and blowing horns as she approaches. They can see her strokes splashing in the water.
Nyad left Havana on Saturday morning.
