Surveillance video released after child's iPad stolen
DAVIE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A mother says her sons are devastated after they accidentally left their iPad outside a restaurant bench, and it was stolen within minutes.
The incident occurred at the Shorty's BBQ restaurant located at 5989 South University Drive in Davie.
"I play games and watch videos and all kinds of stuff," said Allen Worrell, whose iPad was stolen.
On Monday night, Allen and his older brother were sitting on a bench playing games on their iPad while they waited to be called to eat. "When they called us, my husband accidentally left the iPad on a bench," said Allen's mother Victoria. "We walked in, sat down, and we noticed it was gone, so he came out right away, and within minutes we saw that they were gone. Allen started having a melt down."
Victoria said a pair of women took her kid's iPad right off the bench. "I honestly did not believe that they were gone. They were in a children's case, so you can totally tell it was a child's device."
Shorty's management offered to check their surveillance video and said, "Three women came walking up apparently to eat at the restaurant. They looked at them and kind of circled around them," said Shorty's manager Brad Steriti. "One actually came in and gave her name while the other two waited outside. While one of them grabbed them and handed them to the other girl, and the two girls left."
Closer to the restaurant doors, a woman is seen on her phone standing nearby as Allen came outside looking for his iPad. "It appears to be that she got on the phone warning the other two to not come back," said Victoria.
"I was thinking that I would never see my iPad again," said Allen.
Allen has a message for the women who took off with his device. "Please, give it back, please," said Allen.
Police want to speak to the two women who are seen on surveillance video. They are not calling them suspects.
If you have any information on these women, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
