Driver dies after slamming into auto shop
NORTHEAST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police said a driver died after he somehow lost control and crashed into a South Florida auto shop, Wednesday morning.
The driver slammed into another car before plowing into Vaval's Auto Car, located at 11851 W. Dixie Highway. Rescue Crews arrived and pronounced the driver dead on the scene.
Etienne Vaval, the auto shop owner, said drivers have frequently crashed into his store while trying to beat the light at a nearby intersection. "That corner is very dangerous," Vaval said. "They go to the right lane and make the turn. When they make the turn, they lose control of the vehicle. That happens every six months, an accident like that happens. For the 12, 15 years I've been here, that's happened five, six times."
A resident of the area agrees with Vaval and said she has witnessed drivers speeding through the intersection before losing control at the turn. "Everybody's trying to catch that left turn," Jackie said. "Some people catch it at the wrong time, some people they race, they go really fast to try and catch it before the light changes. They could've lost control and ran through the fence. That happened before."
Miami-Dade Police said little is known of the driver who lost his life. All officials could say was that the man was a black male, believed to be in his 20s. He did not have identification.
