Special tribute held for fallen officers
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Officials are honoring heroes who were killed in the line of duty.
The Miami-Dade County Police Benevolent Association has named September Fallen Officer Tribute Month.
A ceremony was held on Wednesday at the County Hall to remember those officers who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting the community. "This is just county officers. It could be City of Miami, but only within the Miami-Dade County area, who have lost their lives, and it is our honor and our duty to remember them forever," said Police Benevolent Association President John Rivera.
Miami-Dade Police Department Director J.D. Patterson said, "It's our job to remember what they have given. It's our job to remember what they've done," said Patterson. "It's our job to remember their service. To remember and it's our job to make sure that we never forget."
Shirts with the names of 138 officers have been put on display and will remain there throughout the month.
