Local Walmart employees partake in national day of protest
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- Dozens of Walmart employees in Miami Gardens have walked out on their jobs, joining similar walk-offs around the country to protest low-wages and insufficient hours.
Walmart workers in Miami Gardens and others in at least 15 major cities across the country took part in a national day of protest.
About 20 to 30 workers as well as their supporters picketed outside a Miami Gardens Walmart Thursday afternoon, calling for higher wages and what they call better employee protections.
The round of protests comes just a week after workers in the fast-food industry also staged a one-day strike in dozens of cities, calling for a higher hourly wage.
At least three Walmart protesters were arrested in New York during a round of protests Thursday morning.
