County ME receives 1st full-body scanner in state
DANIA BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- The Broward County's Medical Examiner Office has become the first in the state to receive a full-body digital scanner.
The technology, common in hospitals, will reduce the time it takes to perform autopsies. "This machine will take a complete body X-ray in under 15 seconds, and we can also take any angle of X-ray," said Chief Medical Examiner Craig Mallak. "We can locate foreign objects in the body, and we can have them removed much more efficiently and accurately."
Officials said the scanner will also help forensic investigators provide more precise information about cause and manner of death.
