Pets Trust draws recall target from hat
MIAMI (WSVN) -- The Pets Trust has "picked out" out a Miami-Dade Commissioner for a recall campaign.
A group of activists upset with eight commissioners who voted against fully funding an animal welfare plan, decided to put their names in a hat and pick one at random.
The unlucky commissioner? Lynda Bell.
Following the stunt, Michael Rosenberg, president of the Pets Trust, said, "The commissioners and the mayor decided not to honor the will of the people ... as much as we've reached out to them, as much as the community has knocked on their doors, called them, e-mailed them, honor our votes, honor our votes, they don't hear."
In a statement, Commissioner Bell responded: "As a lifelong owner and lover of animals and a strong advocate for animal welfare initiatives, I am disappointed that an organization has decided to target me for recall. Regrettably, this ill-conceived plot will only serve as a distraction for others to galvanize."
