Tri-Rail train collides with Jeep stuck on tracks
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police said the driver of a Jeep got stuck on the train tracks and was hit by a train after making a U-Turn.
The collision happened just after 5:30 a.m. Monday, near 3031 W. Hallandale Beach Boulevard. Investigators said the silver Jeep with three occupants was headed eastbound on Hallandale Beach Boulevard after leaving Scarlett's Cabaret. The vehicle became stuck after the driver tried to make a U-turn at a railroad crossing.
That is when a Tri-Rail train headed southbound struck the vehicle.
All three occupants exited the Jeep before the train made impact. There were approximately 100 people in the train. No one was injured.
Hallandale Beach Boulevard was temporarily shut down from Park Road to Interstate 95 as police investigated.
The driver of the Jeep has been taken into custody on a DUI charge.
