Police: SWAT situation over, 3 detained
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Authorities have three people in custody who are being questioned following a lengthy standoff with the SWAT team.
Police said they received a call around 2:45 a.m. Thursday in reference to a kidnapping. When officers arrived on the 400 block of Southwest Fourth Avenue, a woman ran out of an apartment telling officers she was a victim of sexual battery. At that point, officers said the people inside the apartment would not come out.
The SWAT team and negotiators were called out to the scene. "After lengthy negotiations and unable to get anybody out of the house, our SWAT team deployed gas into the residence, which forced everyone who was in the house out of the house," said Fort Lauderdale Police Lieutenant Frank Sousa.
Crime Scene Investigators are on the scene gathering any evidence. "This is still an active scene. We've taken three people out of the house. The house has been cleared," said Sousa.
