Police search for man in restaurant robbery
AVENTURA, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have released surveillance video of a man robbing a South Florida restaurant.
The robbery occurred last Wednesday at around 9 p.m. at Le Rendez-Vous French Bakery & Bistro, located on 178th Street and Biscayne Boulevard in Aventura.
A man captured on surveillance video is seen walking around the restaurant then asking the manager for some change. "He walks all the way in the back, but two minutes later, he walks back out, stands around where the cash register is and asked the manager for change," said Aventura Police Detective Olga Burns, "so the manager helping, being kind, this is a kind of a mom and pop kind of establishment, was very nice to him and the establishment was closing."
Moments later, the man pushes the store manager and went after the cash inside the register. The man is seen on the floor picking up the cash and running out. "All of a sudden, you see the manager pushed up against the counter area that's there," said Burns. "They struggle with $300. Some money falls on the floor, he picks it up, runs out of the store, and outside the store, which we won't be able to see, but he pushes the manager with his elbow."
Stephanie Weston owns the restaurant and said, "It is a family business ... yeah. I work here seven days a week with my husband, my brother-in-law and my kids."
"These people are hard-working people. It is a family-owned establishment. They were doing the right thing by helping someone out, and this is what they get," said Burns.
The store manager who was seen punched around, returned to work and did not want to speak about the incident on camera, but said, "The guy was desperate, absolutely desperate."
Weston pointed out the amount of surveillance cameras on site. "We have one here, one here, one there. We have cameras everywhere because it's a small place, and it looks like it's gonna be easy, but I don't think so," she said.
If you have any information on this man, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
