Driver slams into building, no injuries
NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A woman lost control of her vehicle and slammed into a building that houses a local law office, Friday morning.
Beatrice Rivera was shaken up but feels grateful. Rivera said she was at work when her boss called out her name for help. "I went to the back to get a file, my boss told me to go get a file and then I just heard the crash," said Rivera.
Seconds later, a car smashed through the concrete wall, right into Rivera's desk and office. "It was pretty bad," said Rivera.
One witness said the driver works in the area and parks in the same parking spot everyday. "That's where she parks everyday, so it's like she must have had as seizure or something," said Winston Blair.
The woman behind the wheel plowed right through the concrete wall of the building. Rivera said, "I just got nervous and scared, and I screamed out my boss' name, and he told me, 'No, everything is OK.'"
The driver works across the street at a CPA office. Fire rescue said, luckily, no one was injured. "They are very fortunate. It was a very lucky morning," said a rescuer.
"I walked out, and that's where I saw the car, and I came out here, and I saw that they crashed into my desk and just got nervous and a little bit sentimental cause, you know, I could have been sitting there," said Rivera.
The building has been boarded up. Officials have deemed the building unsafe until structural engineers investigate.
The owner of the company said he has insurance.
