4 arrested in grow house raid
WESTON, Fla. (WSVN) -- Broward Sheriff's Office deputies took four men into custody Friday as they investigated a South Florida home, they said, was being used to grow thousands of dollars worth of marijuana.
Skyforce HD cameras captured the scene at the sprawling, 5-bedroom, 6-bath mansion on 451 Ranch Road in Weston, which is valued at around $1 million.
Authorities said the raid, which began at around 4 p.m., is part of an ongoing investigation. Inside the home, deputies found over 100 marijuana plants and about 50 pounds in processed cannabis.
Detectives questioned the subjects, who they are calling drug traffickers.
"They had cars, expensive cars, coming back and forth," said nearby resident Carolina Dorego.
Next door neighbor Daniel Sanchez said the raid comes as a surprise. "I just found out a few minutes ago there was some marijuana growing, stuff like that," he said. "I had no idea."
Undercover agents concealed by masks spent hours sweeping through the 7,000-square-foot property searching for additional marijuana stashes.
Sanchez said the sight of several police cars parked in front of the house made it seem like a famous person was visiting. "We're teasing each other saying, 'It's probably some celebrity or something,'" he said.
Sanchez added he was disheartened by the neighboring home's turn of events. "It's disappointing because we pay taxes, since these are expensive homes, and we don't want that kind of situation close to your house," he said.
The four men who, deputies said, were growing a high-priced pot farm were escorted from the premises in handcuffs and taken to jail. They are being charged with trafficking marijuana.
