Woman arrested at FLL after shoving BSO deputies
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- An altercation between a woman and several Broward Sheriff's Office deputies who were asking her to move her car at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport led to her arrest Sunday after she became combative and the officers found marijuana inside the vehicle, authorities said.
According to investigators, 36-year-old Omolola Dawodu had parked her Chevrolet sedan on the curb at passenger pickup on Terminal 1. When several BSO deputies approached Dawodu and asked her to move the car, she refused to comply. When they insisted, deputies said she threw a fit.
"We were over here, and she was screaming something had happened to her, and she was down on her hands and knees screaming," said traveler Nicole Miller, who had just returned from a cruise with her husband and witnessed the entire ordeal. "We were sitting over here, and I heard screaming and [I wondered], 'What the heck is going on?' and then we looked down and there were six cops down there."
Deputies said they were just trying to persuade Dawodu to move her car, but the argument continued to escalate until she pushed two of the deputies. The law enforcers than fell backwards and hit the ground.
Authorities said one of the deputies suffered a bruised shoulder and the other sustained a finger injury. Paramedics transported the officer with the shoulder injury to Broward Health Medical Center. He is expected to be OK.
Miller said the incident caused quite a commotion. "It was like somebody got shot, actually, or somebody had a heart attack or a seizure or something," she said.
Officials said deputies also found a small amount of marijuana inside Dawodu's car. "Well, they searched for a while, like 25 minutes," said Miller.
Dawodu was then arrested. She faces six charges, including drug possession and two counts of assault against a police officer.
Dawodu is being held at the Broward County Jail. Her car was later towed from the scene.
