Attempted chain snatching caught on video
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are looking for a robbery suspect after he was caught on camera violently yanking and attempting to snatch a gold chain right off the neck of a man at a local drugstore.
The suspected attacker can be seen on surveillance video footage pulling into the parking lot of the Walgreens at 1101 E. Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano Beach, on July 29. He gets out of a dark-colored car before casually entering the Walgreens.
Fifty-eight-year-old Sandy Kobler was inside reading a newspaper, waiting on friend. Right before leaving, the subject forcefully attempts to snatch a gold chain off the neck of 58-year-old Sandor Kobler. The suspect is seen aggressively pulling at Kobler's necklace and repeatedly smashing the victim into the store's security sensors. "At first, I didn't realize what was going on," said the victim, "and then he hung on to it for a little while."
The struggle lasted until a witness intervened and chased the attacker who ran out of the store empty-handed. He then jumped back in his car and fled. "I'm pretty lucky," said Kobler. "It's a good chain. It's still here."
The would-be crook now remains at large. Kobler said, if he sees him again, he will have more than words for him. "I'd probably just hit him on the head, to be honest with you."
If you have any information on this attempted robbery, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
