Commissioners finalize county budget
MIAMI (WSVN) -- A deal to keep Miami-Dade County running through next year is now done.
Just after midnight, commissioners finalized a $6.3 billion budget. Property tax rates will stay the same through 2014.
The decision will essentially put 59 firefighters on the chopping block, but the commission hopes a federal grant will help save those jobs.
The budget deal will impact those who use public transit, however. A fare increase will go into effect Oct. 1. The cost of a one-way trip on the Metrorail or Metrobus will increase from $2 to $2.25.
