Local charities give back to families in need
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Local charities have teamed up to provide families in need with some healthy meals free of charge.
Farm Share and Christ Fellowship Church partnered up to supply a variety of fresh produce and frozen meats to those in need.
Volunteers gathered at Miami Jackson High School, Saturday, to serve up the nutritious meals. "It's wonderful. It comes from the heart. People donate stuff. All these kids from the school volunteering for hours," said volunteer Rem Latchera.
Another volunteer said, "It feels great to give back."
Families who showed up received a Farm Share food package full of fresh produce and frozen meats. "We get it donated. The businesses and the farmers that donate the food get a tax credit. It's a real partnership in the community," said Farm Share Spokesperson Mia Devane.
Food package recipient Linda Hudson said, "It means a lot that a lot of people still care."
This year alone, Farm Share has provided more than $40 million in food to the poorest in Florida.
