Crooks burglarize warehouse, steal cell phones
WEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for the crooks who burglarized a South Florida export company and stole about $20,000 worth of merchandise.
Surveillance video captured crooks burglarizing AmeriPack Services Tuesday night at about 9:30. A sport utility vehicle drives up to the business, and two men get out and break the gate. Minutes later, a Mercedes-Benz pulls up to the warehouse and a man on foot and box truck follow in.
AmeriPack Services ships a wide variety of items to Venezuela. Surveillance video went on to capture two men breaking a window and entering the business. Seconds later, an alarm rings, and the thieves take off. Detectives said the crooks stole about 100 cell phones, including iPhones and Blackberry phones.
An employee believes the company was targeted, and the four men had planned to steal more. "No, this wasn't random. They wanted this merchandise," said Willians Herrera.
Herrera said earlier that afternoon he saw people in a parked Audi watching as the phones were being delivered. He believes the men were scoping out the warehouse and had originally planned to fill the box truck with phones. "Oh, definitely, they wanted more," he said.
Now the company is hoping to hire security. "You feel helpless," said Herrera. "You, like, you want to be here when they break in, so you can do something about it."
