Food drive held for needy families
NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) -- A local organization is feeding families by dishing out some fresh food to those in need.
Farm Share food bank helped several families this Friday by giving them bags full of food. "We are getting can goods; I think this is a turkey, some good stuff, good stuff," said one woman.
Dozens of people stood in line in the hot sun at Griffing Park, located at 12220 Griffing Boulevard to receive a variety of fresh produce, non-perishable food and frozen meats. "You have a lot of people in line that are saying this is a blessing," said Rick Smith.
Farm Share provides more than 15 million pounds of food to Florida families over the course of one year.
Several volunteers were on hand passing out the food and putting smiles on people's faces. "They make me feel great because I feel that we're putting food on the table for a family that couldn't afford it, to go to the supermarket to buy it at the normal price," said Marie Charles.
Also at the Farm Share food bank event, people can receive a free health screening on their way out.
