826 ramp to close as new exit ramp opens
SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- There will be a new way for drivers to travel on a South Florida expressway as crews will be closing the old State Road 826 expressway ramp, Friday night.
More then 400,000 drivers travel a day on the State Road 826 and 836 Expressway interchange. On Sunday, workers will be putting up a new ramp in the improvement project. Florida Department of Transportation Oscar Gonzalez said, "Well, we are going to close the ramp, tonight, at 11 p.m., and it's going to be closed permanently. On Sunday afternoon, we are going to be opening a new ramp."
A new northbound 826 ramp to Northwest 25th Street is set for completion on Sunday. Once open, drivers will be exiting northbound on 826, a half-mile earlier, to access Northwest 25th Street. "If drivers pass the new ramp, there is no need to worry, you can just continue northbound on 826, exit at 36th Street and either go to 72nd Avenue or 79th Avenue to go south, to connect with 25th Street," said Gonzalez.
The Department of Transportation's main plan is to complete the $560 million project of 40-plus roadways, elevated bridges and interchange improvements designed to smooth out the commute for drivers. "Once the project is completed, in the fall of 2015, the connections between 826 and 836 are going to be much improved," said Gonzalez. "Access is going to be greatly enhanced and travelers will travel through the interchange at a much better rate of speed."
