Police search for suspects in fatal shooting
NORTHEAST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for at least five people involved in the fatal shooting of a South Florida man Saturday, an incident that took place as the victim was sitting inside his car, officials said.
Investigators said four to five subjects approached the as yet unidentified victim, an adult male, as he was sitting inside his Nissan Altima on Northeast 164th Street and Fifth Avenue at around 2 p.m. and opened fire. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police said the suspects fled from the scene in a white 4-door sedan.
The victim's car had bullet holes in the passenger front door. The vehicle's reverse lights were on, but investigators did not confirm whether this indicates the victim was trying to get away from the alleged shooters.
News of the shooting shocked area residents, some of whom have lived in this Northeast Miami-Dade neighborhood for over 20 years. "We never get things like that happen here," said resident Abephene Joseph. "It's pretty strange."
Witnesses said they heard five gunshots on Saturday, as well as several gunshots, Friday night.
A nearby resident who spoke off camera said she had just come home from a funeral, only to find police investigating a homicide right on her street. "That's scary, you know, when you're living in that neighborhood and you don't feel safe," she said. "It's not good at all."
"People getting killed, and no one knows who killed, who killed," said Joseph. "That's really weird. It does need to stop."
Joseph added he only wants one thing for the victim in this shooting. "Justice; we need to get justice," he said.
Area residents said they would like to see more police patrolling their neighborhoods, as well as more lights in the street where the shooting took place.
Officials said the motive for the shooting remains unknown at this time. Police continue investigating.
