Students to participate in hurricane simulation
PLANTATION, Fla. (AP) -- A group of seventh-graders will be participating in a hurricane simulation exercise in Plantation.
Sixty students from New River Middle School are expected to partake in the event Thursday at the Broward County Emergency Operations Center. The exercise will simulate Hurricane Barbara and show students how to prepare and recover from the storm.
A county statement says the exercise is part of StormZone, a school-based educational program that helps students understand the importance of advance preparation when confronted with a natural disaster such as a hurricane. Students form their own local government and simulate a fictitious hurricane slamming into their town.
