Woman hospitalized after car crashes through fence
PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida woman who was sunbathing at her home was hospitalized after a car crashed into the pool patio, Friday.
According to police, a 60-year-old woman was behind the wheel of the vehicle when she somehow lost control and drove through several fences and by two pools before striking the victim, laying out by the pool at 5181 SW 21st Court. "I was shocked. I couldn't believe it," said neighbor Anne Morinelli.
The victim was thrown several feet and transported to Broward Health Medical Center.
"They are always, always in the pool everyday, so I'm just really glad they weren't home," said House-sitter Leri Stilwell about one of the homes that was crashed into.
The car kept going, drove into another fence before it finally came to a stop at a patio. The driver crashed into her own patio.
Neighbors said this is not the first time the 60-year-old has crashed. "I'm hoping she's OK, and I'm hoping the lady she hit is perfectly fine. May God be with her," said neighbor Stephanie Turner.
Officials said the victim is listed in critical condition. The victim's relatives said she is awake, alert and talking.
The driver was transported to the Health Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives do not know how the driver lost control.
