Man impaled by gate while trying to flee from police
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Authorities said an assault suspect who was reportedly running around naked in a South Florida neighborhood injured his leg while trying to get away from police.
The incident happened near Northeast Bayshore Drive between 80th and 82nd Street, just before 2 a.m. Tuesday. Investigators said police received a call from a woman screaming. Apparently she had been allegedly assaulted. Police arrived on scene to find a naked man running around in the area.
The subject tried to jump an iron gate in order to flee from police but ended up impaling his leg.
Miami Fire Rescue arrived on scene to find the man hanging upside down from the gate. Crews had to cut away at the wrought iron fence to free the man. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where his condition has not been released.
Louis Paredes who witnessed the event said, "It was from that block all the way down to the next street. There was maybe like 20 police cars. It's the first time I see so many police cars around here. It's quiet."
Police said neither the suspect or the victim live in the area. It remains unknown how they encountered each other. Police continue to investigate.
