Woman injured by hit-and-run driver
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who struck a South Florida woman while jogging.
Odiliana Gonzalez was jogging with her boyfriend, Angel Pinto, near the intersection of Country Club Prado and South Greenway Drive, at around 6 p.m., when she was hit by the car, Sunday evening.
Coral Gables Fire Rescue crews transported Gonzalez, 46, to Doctors Hospital, where she is recovering.
Family members said she suffered serious injuries to both her legs, and they said, she has to go through numerous surgeries. "She has a fractured right leg on three different areas," said Pinto.
Witnesses said the hit and run vehicle was red, possibly a Jeep. It was last seen traveling northbound on Red Road from South Greenway Drive. "I was running in front of her," said Pinto. "She was running in the back. A red vehicle from my understanding, I didn't see it, but I was told that a red vehicle hit her."
Detectives have released a seven-second surveillance video from a home security system that shows a red vehicle, possibly a pickup truck, driving through the Coral Gables neighborhood around the same time when Gonzalez was struck.
Pinto made a plea for the driver to come forward. "The person that did it, if he has a conscious, we plead for him to turn himself in. If the public saw something, we would like somebody to report it to the Coral Gables Police Department, so we can get this person off the street," said Pinto.
Coral Gables Police continue to investigate.
