MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- The popular Miami Beach restaurant known for their stone crab is celebrating a major milestone and are opening their doors for stone crab season.
"Whenever I eat it, it's just so succulent," said customer Carol Aiden.
Joe's Stone Crab restaurant is celebrating their 100th year in Miami Beach. Doors opened at 4 p.m. and the first seating began at 5 p.m., Tuesday. The crabs are served on ice alongside butter and a house-made sauce. "The mustard sauce really makes it," said Aiden.
The iconic dish at Joe's only comes seven months out of the year. "I think part of the experience in having them or enjoying them is craving them," said fourth generation Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Sawitz. "Would you want football all year around?"
John Peterson said he has been longing for stone crabs ever since they went out of season. "I've been waiting about five months to taste them again," he said.
As Joe's celebrated their 100th opening, there are some noticeable additions to the menu.
"We have 380 employees. We are all dependent on stone crabs," said Sawitz.
While no trip to Joe's is complete without stone crabs, hash browns, creamed spinach and key lime pie, meat eaters will also be able to celebrate at Joe's with prime cuts of certified Angus beef, new this year to the menu. "Key lime pie is my mom's recipe," said Sawitz.
