Dog healing after being badly burned
SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) -- She's been in an animal hospital for months, but now a hound is healing after being found in heartbreaking condition.
A hyperbaric chamber has become a breath of fresh air for the dog with horrific burns.
Lily was badly burned and wrapped in bandages three months ago. She is now energetic and nearing the end of her road to recovery. "She certainly acts like a happy, spoiled dog, and she just wants to hold you and kiss you," said veterinarian Kip Lyman.
The 3-year-old Beagle mix was burned and was taken to the South Miami Animal Clinic before heading off to Fort Pierce where she spent hours inside a hyperbaric chamber. "By using oxygen under pressure it turns on the body's normal healing mechanisms," said Lyman.
Doctors said her healing process was just short of a miracle. "I'm always amazed at what the chamber can do, but this oxygen chamber can make medicine a whole new thing," said Lyman.
Lily had lacerations and deep abscesses that were infected because of abuse or neglect. Now, her skin is healing nicely thanks to a team animal lovers. "Everyone saved Lilly, and she will give everyone kisses," said Lyman.
Lily is back in Miami and will soon be placed in a new home.
