Security guard shot, 3 grazed at apartment complex
OPA-LOCKA, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for two subjects who injured a security guard and three others during a shooting at an apartment complex Thursday morning.
The shooting happened at about 2 a.m. at the apartment complex on 131st Terrace and Port Said Road. "I was sleeping in my bed, and I heard shots fired, and we went and peeked through the window and there was a car shooting shots to everywhere," said Tony Rojas. "Next thing I know, I see the police officer, and he said there was a security guard involved."
The 26-year-old security guard was struck by three or four stray bullets. "I see myself bleeding dramatically because I got shot," said Marquis McLemore, speaking over the phone from his hospital bed.
According to police, the gunshots also hit three people in a car nearby. "Three black males that were grazed in the vehicle," said Opa-locka Assistant City Manager David Chiverton.
Rescue Crews airlifted McLemore to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he is listed stable condition. He is expected to make a full recovery. "I thank God that I'm alive," he said.
The three men who were grazed by bullets are being questioned by police. "I'm always concerned about guys and guns," said Opa-locka Police Chief Jeffrey Key.
Police are now searching for the subjects. "We're looking for two suspects; we're still getting a clear description of them," said Chiverton.
McLemore's co-worker said she is thinking twice about her place of work. "Right now, I've got an open mind," she said.
The city manager assures that Opa-locka Police will find the people responsible for this shooting. "Our police department is aggressively getting to the bottom of this, so I'm sure we'll deal with this," said Chiverton.
