Parts of 826 closed for construction
WEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Highway headaches are on the way as sections of State Road 826, also known as the Palmetto Expressway, will be closed for construction.
Beginning Sunday, northbound drivers exiting at Northwest 25th Street will need to exit a half mile earlier. "As of Friday night, at 11 p.m., the existing Northwest 25th Street ramp will be shut down. We'll work through the weekend. On Sunday, sometime Sunday mid-morning, the new ramp will be opened up, and the drivers will have to exit at the new ramp," said Oscar Gonzalez III, with the Florida Department of Transportation.
The new exit ramp will be located immediately after SR 836. "Now, drivers on Northbound 826, as they are approaching the overpass of 836, they should already be on the right-hand lane," said Gonzalez. "Going underneath 836, once they pass this last bridge, they're gonna have to get ready to exit right here to the right-hand side to go ahead and access Northwest 25th Street."
The exit ramp that drivers were accustomed to will close starting Friday at 11 p.m. until the new ramp opens Sunday at noon.
If you miss the Northwest 25th Street exit, you can keep going to 36th Street and re-route yourself and come back around.
The construction that began in 2009 is part of the 826-836 Interchange Project. FDOT is asking drivers to just bare with them and be patient. The construction will end in 2015.
