4 injured in Margate shooting
MARGATE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are investigating a shooting that rocked a quiet South Florida neighborhood and sent four people to the hospital, Friday.
Investigators said the victims were shot just after 11:30 Friday night, on the 7400 block of Santa Monica Drive in Margate. "Upon arrival, officers observed four victims with what appeared to be gunshot wounds, three males and one female," said Margate Police spokesperson Lori Eller. "All four victims were trauma-alerted and transported to the hospital."
Residents at the neighborhood where the incident took place were kept out of their homes for hours as police responded to a 911 call of possible shots fired. "It's definitely alarming, and 1,000 percent concerning," said resident Venus Simcos.
Patricia Santiago said she could not imagine how such a violent incident could happen in her neighborhood, which she considers safe. "It's an amazing neighborhood, very friendly," she said. "There's actually a lot of [police] officers who live in the community ... so it's really shocking."
Investigators remained at the active crime scene throughout the night and much of Saturday searching for clues. Authorities removed several vehicles, including a charcoal-colored sport utility vehicle with a bullet hole on one of the rear passenger doors and a flat rear tire.
Two of the victims were listed in critical condition, and the other two remained in stable condition, Saturday night.
