Archdiocese of Miami to host town hall meeting
MIAMI (AP) -- The Archdiocese of Miami is holding a town hall-style meeting for South Florida Catholics.
The meeting is set for Oct. 26 at the Miami Downtown Hilton as part of the archdiocese's 55th anniversary. Archbishop Thomas Wenski will present a three-year plan he developed after listening to parishioners' concerns.
The keynote speaker will be Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez Maradiaga of Honduras. He is one of eight cardinals on Francis' advisory council.
Francis made headlines last month when he said the Catholic Church had become obsessed by what he called "small-minded rules" about how to be faithful. The Pope said pastors should instead emphasize compassion over condemnation when discussing divisive social issues.
The mass and meeting is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to the public.
