10-year-old escapes alleged stalker
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are looking for a man who allegedly chased a 10-year-old girl on her way home from school, Monday.
According to the young girl, she saw a man sitting next to a bush when she got off her school bus at 200 N.W. 108th Ave. in Pembroke Pines. She said, the man got up and began to follow her as soon as she walked past him. "He quietly got up, and I heard his wallet chains make noise," the girl said.
The 10-year-old said she began to do everything she was taught when encountering a stranger, she ran away and yelled. "I looked back, and then he just started chasing me," the girl said. "So I ran as fast as I could."
She said, once she noticed the suspicious man was following her, she began to run, but once she noticed the man running as well, she started to scream for help and ran into her complex. "I was thinking, 'Why would he do this to me?' and 'Maybe he was looking at me sometimes when I walk home,'" the girl said.
Once the man heard her scream and saw her run away, he decided to run back to his vehicle that was parked across the street.
Once she was finally home, the girl's father knew something happened. "She walked in the door, and she was very, very nervous and scared," the father said.
The young girl had previously been taught what to do in such situations and used what she had learned. "My mom told me, if there's a stranger, not to talk to them," the girl said. "If they're chasing you, scream 'Help' and say what they're doing."
"She was able to give a good description of what she saw, how it happened, where it happened," the girl's father said.
The man is described as a white male with a goatee, in his late 20s, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white and blue striped sleeveless T-shirt and blue jean shorts. He is believed to have tattoos on both arms and both legs, a heart tattoo on his neck, a pierced bottom lip and pierced ears.
He fled in an older model, red faded Toyota Camry with a stripe across the back of the window, bearing a partial tag of 94.
The young girl also warned other children. "You say that it's not going to happen to you, but it's really going to happen to you one day," the girl said.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of this man, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
