Store destroyed in fire back in business
SWEETWATER, Fla. (WSVN) -- The owner of an under garment boutique that was destroyed earlier this month when a fire broke out inside a South Florida strip mall is back in business.
A family who lost their business of 13 years is back up and running thanks to one of their loyal customers. "I have a lot of energy right now," said Azucena Jacome.
Jacome was devastated when she lost everything in her My Little Secrets boutique, due to a fire back in early October. "Everything is gone, everything," she said. "I can't talk."
Now, Jacome is back in business thanks to a loyal customer. "The space was available, and we wanted to help her," said Belkys Alonso, through a translator.
Alonso also has her own business. After learning about the fire, she saw an opportunity to add a new element to her store, Beserra's, located at 107th Avenue and West Flagler Street, by adding a booth filled with Jacome's goods.
Jacome is thrilled that Alonso was willing to help her during this tough time. "No charge, completely free," said Jacome. "I'm so happy. I think God helped me because I didn't know what I was going to do after the fire."
The free booth where Jacome can sell her merchandise was donated almost immediately and the rest was history for the resilient entrepreneur who was given a pep-talk by her son, the morning of the accidental fire. "I knew she was going to be able to reopen. It was just going to take some time," said Marlin Silva.
Jacome believes the fire was meant to happen. "This happened for a reason. Maybe this has to be better," she said.
