Mother denied custody of children after boyfriend arrested in death of her baby
MIAMI (WSVN) -- A mother has lost custody of her children following the beating death of her baby, allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend.
At a custody hearing Friday afternoon, mother Sabrina Darien, took the news hard, crying "I want my kids" in the courtroom.
The children, a 2-year-old, an 8-year-old and a 9-year-old will have a medical evaluation and remain in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
The children were all already in the care of DCF following the death of Darien's 7-month-old infant, Jazira Darien, who police said died from blunt force trauma inflicted by 24-year-old Watson Dorval. Dorval was denied bond earlier Friday morning, as he waits to face second degree murder charges.
There will be another custody hearing next Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., as two family members have stepped forward to take two of the three kids in their care. At this hearing next week DCF will start the process to conduct home studies for an aunt and cousin.
The 8-year-old will remain in DCF custody because he was already in their care, before his brother's death, due to the fact that he suffers from a medical condition that was previously deemed too much for the mother to handle.
