Jewelry thieves caught on camera
PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- Plantation Police have released surveillance video of several suspects smashing and grabbing precious pieces during the theft of jewelry store late last week.
Last Thursday, an armed robbery occurred at Mayor's Jewelers located at the Broward Mall.
Police said, at approximately 9:07 p.m., four men entered the business, telling the manager they were here to rob the place and flashed a gun.
Plantation Police Detective Robert Rettig said the thieves were dressed oddly considering the South Florida weather. "They were dressed in jackets and heavy clothing," he said
Rettig also said the thieves targeted the store for its Rolex watches. "One of the suspects pulled out what appears to be a revolver from his coat pocket, while the other smashed the cabinets to steal those watches," he said.
One of the suspects was armed with a handgun, and another was armed with a crowbar, which he used to smash the display cases.
The robbery occurred near closing time at the store. No was injured as a result of this smash and grab.
On the same day, thieves targeted the Mayor's Jewelers store at Sunset Place. A pair of crooks smashed the front window of the store before stealing $30,000 worth of jewelry from display cases. They fled and remain at large. Police are not sayign the two robberies are connected.
