Employees, customers stop man from robbing bank
PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- An attempted bank robber is in FBI custody after Good Samaritans stopped him in his tracks.
Plantation Police said around 9 Wednesday morning, the attempted bank robber walked into the Bank of America located at 8190 West Sunrise Boulevard posing as a customer.
Authorities said the man jumped over the counter, pushing a bank employee to the ground. He then jumped back over the counter after grabbing money and tried to flee, but employees and customers tackled him and held him until police arrived. "It was quick thinking, but it was also dangerous. He wasn't armed, thankfully, but that is a dangerous situation to put yourself into, but nobody got hurt, and one's in custody, so that's a good thing," said Plantation Police Detective Phillip Toman.
One bank customer felt frightened for her life. "All of a sudden I heard a commotion, and I turned around to look. I heard like a soft bang, and I turned around and looked and I saw one of the tellers fell back behind a counter, and she went, 'Oh, my God' or 'Oh, no,'" said Wanda Harris, "and at that point, I realized I don't want to be in here, so I got up and ran out."
