Miami-Dade School Board approves more job cuts
MIAMI (WSVN) -- The Miami-Dade School Board has approved $89 million in budget cuts, resulting in more lost jobs.
Tuesday night, School Board members decided more than 400 Miami-Dade School jobs had to go.
The jobs ranging from clerical to teacher's aides and even assistant principal positions. "It seems that our salaries are always on the chopping block, yet the School Board never stands up for the teachers and supports them," said Michael Molnar of the United Teachers of Dade.
Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said it was a painful decision for him to make. "I know that this is catastrophic to you, and believe me when I say my heart goes out to you, and I know and understand your pain."
The recent meeting was called after the board found out their budget plan wasn't balanced and there was an $158 million.
